Manchester United eye shock move for Chelsea star as Jadon Sancho speaks out on his future

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Friday, June 11.

United eye Hudson-Odoi

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi if their Jadon Sancho deal doesn’t work out.

The Reds are already reportedly making headway on a deal for Borussia Dortmund star Sancho, who has also been linked with the Blues, but as we will come on to later, they have had their latest bid rejected.

That could lead them elsewhere, and the Express claim Hudson-Odoi could come on to their radar as an alternative, as well as former United favourite Cristiano Ronaldo.

Hudson-Odoi has also been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, but the latest reports claim he is determined to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.

Sancho speaks on future

Borussia Dortmund have rejected a £69million bid from Manchester United for Jadon Sancho, potentially opening the door for Chelsea.

According to BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone, Dortmund are demanding €90m+5m (£77m+4.2m) for Sancho, with a ‘shorter repayment period than the five years suggested’.

But Sancho has remained very coy on the speculation and was determined to stress his focus is on England, with his country’s opening Euro 2020 match on Sunday against Croatia.

“I don’t really look at it. During the season, I always focus on myself and the team. That’s the most important thing you can do,” Sancho said, via talkSPORT.

“Every time I’m on the pitch, I always give it my all. That’s what I really try to do and work hard for the team.

“I feel like that’s part of the game (noise around his future). A lot of fans are always going to be excited about the start of a major tournament, that’s normal.

“As a young kid growing up, watching these tournaments, I think I’m excited as well. All the fans should be excited because these tournaments don’t come around often.

“You have to just take your moment and when you do get your moment on the pitch, you have to just take it.”

VAR change

The Premier League will introduce “thicker lines” for the Video Assistant Referee’s offside decisions next season.

That’s according to The Times, who say that the new lines are being brought to light to try and prevent highly controversial marginal calls.

The thicker lines on the VAR will allow a slightly bigger margin of error to the really tight offside calls. It’s also said that the ambition is to give the attacking players the ‘benefit of the doubt’.

There were multiple instances last season where the forward was deemed offside by perhaps an armpit or a toe, with these decisions being highly scrutinised by the footballing world.

The summer window is officially open and now the Blues can look to build on European glory and bolster the squad to push for Premier League supremacy.

The Premier League are introducing the new ‘thicker lines’ system, which is already used in the Dutch top-flight, the Eredivisie.

One major alteration will be that the television broadcasters will no longer get to see the lines being drawn onto the screen, they will just see the end result.

This decision was made at the annual general meeting of the 20 Premier League clubs.
