Kwara House Of Assembly Makes Case For The Provisi…
The Kwara House of Assembly on Wednesday called for the provision of oxygen gas at public and private hospitals in the state.
The house made the appeal in its resolution after adopting a Motion on Notice, titled: ‘Need for Pragmatic Policy to Enhance Consistent Availability of Oxygen gas in Hospitals in Kwara’.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the motion, which was moved by Rasaq Owolabi (APC/Share-Oke Ode), enjoyed the support of members at the plenary.
In his submission, Owolabi expressed worries that health facilities in the state were witnessing dearth of oxygen gas for patients in need of it.
According to him, this is at the detriment of those who need quick medical intervention, particularly in this period of coronavirus pandemic ravaging the globe.
The lawmaker said appreciable budgetary allocations had been proposed and extended to the health sector to improve infrastructure and procure critical equipment required for efficient healthcare service delivery to the people of the state
Other lawmakers, in their separate submissions, frowned at the scarcity of oxygen gas at both the public and private hospitals in the state.
They, however, advocated a holistic approach towards ensuring the availability of oxygen gas in hospitals for the benefits of COVID-19 patients and of other ailments.
The Speaker, Mr Yakubu Danladi, while reading the resolution of the assembly on the motion, advised the state government to identify and invite medical industrialists with oxygen gas manufacturing competence for partnership.
According to him, the resolution will guarantee sustainable supply of the product to the hospitals to prevent avoidable death of citizens.
