It is set to be a big summer for former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian striker, fresh from helping Inter Milan to Serie A success, is now hoping to fire the Red Devils to success at Euro 2020, with Roberto Martinez’s men among the favourites for the tournament, being ranked as the world number one team going into it.
And he has made a positive start to the tournament, opening the scoring for Belgium in their first group game against Russia inside the first ten minutes of the game in St Petersburg.
It was a fine finish from the 28-year-old, who pounced on a mistake in defence from Russia to fire home into the bottom corner.
He wheeled away to celebrate and went straight to a camera to send a message to his Inter Milan team-mate Christian Eriksen, who was taken to hospital after collapsing during the first half of Denmark’s fixture with Finland in Copenhagen.
Staring down the camera, Lukaku said: “Chris, Chris, I love you.”
His goal and subsequent celebration got Chelsea fans talking, with the former Blues striker linked with a return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Here’s what Chelsea fans have said about Lukaku following his goal.
Lukaku is one of many names reportedly on Chelsea’s striker wishlist this summer.
That list is also said to include Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Erling Haaland, with the Blues in the market for a prolific centre-forward to turn them into genuine Premier League title challengers next season.
However, any of those strikers would cost Chelsea a big sum, with all three valued in excess of £100million.
