Baba Ijesha Set To Be Arraigned In Court Wednesday
Popular Nollywood actor, Olarenwaju James, aka Baba Ijesha, will be arraigned at the Magistrate Court 1, Yaba, on Wednesday, by 9 am.
One of the charges against him includes Indecent Treatment of a child, which is punishable by seven years imprisonment.
Another is the defilement of a child, which is punishable by life imprisonment, sexual assault by penetration is also punishable by life imprisonment.
Baba Ijesha is also being charged for Attempted Sexual Assault by Penetration, punishable by 14 years imprisonment, and sexual assault, which is punishable by three years imprisonment.
Recall that Baba Ijesha was picked up by men of the Lagos State Police Command for defiling a teenager. The police said that the 48-year-old veteran actor confessed to the crime and was even caught on CCTV camera.
Days later, there was a report that the police were issued the directive to release Baba Ijesha on bail. According to the police, it was just a case of indecent assault and not sexual harassment, making the offense bailable according to law.
Police said that as members of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) are on strike, it would be against his fundamental human rights to keep him in custody without trial.
The police added that the CCTV footage only captured the 48-year-old veteran actor touching the victim’s body but didn’t capture him having sexual intercourse with her.
